ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE Acapulco International Airport is approximately 14 miles southeast of Acapulco Bay and the hotel zone, a 20- to 30-minute drive. Visitors are issued a Tourist Card upon arrival, which must be turned in upon departure at the airport. A departure tax, payable in U.S. dollars or Mexican pesos will be charged. CLIMATE The climate is tropical with sunshine and clear skies 360 days a year. January through April, the temperatures range from a high of 88 degrees F to a low of 72 degrees F. From May through December, the average high is 90 degrees F, with lows averaging about 77 degrees F. Tropical showers are brief, and usually occur at night. CURRENCY Official currency is the Mexican peso. The rate of exchange fluctuates. (The rate in early April was about US$1 = 9.5 pesos). Most hotels and tourist spots accept credit cards. CUSTOMS/DOCUMENTATION Proof of citizenship is required for entry into Mexico. A current U.S. passport is recommended. An original birth certificate (or a certified copy), or naturalization papers along with a driver's license is also sufficient. ELECTRICITY Uses the same 110-volt/60-amp current as the U.S., so no adapters are needed. LANGUAGE Spanish is the national language, but English is spoken at most tourist sights, restaurants, and hotels. LOCATION/GEOGRAPHY Situated 229miles south of Mexico City on the southwest Pacific Coast in the state of Guerrero. Bordered by the Sierra Madre mountains to the east, and Acapulco Bay to the west. POPULATION 1.5 million TRANSPORTATION Frequent van transfers and limousines available from the airport. Rental car companies at the airport include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and National. WATER Nearly all restaurants, hotels, and bars in Acapulco serve purified water. If in doubt, guests should ask for bottled water. WHAT TO WEAR Lightweight clothing is the rule of thumb, as a result of Acapulco's tropical climate. Casual attire is ideal for daytime, but evening call for more formal attire; many restaurants and nightclubs do not allow shorts or sneakers. Thanks
