TURTLE BAY RESORT

TURTLE BAY RESORT, on the North Shore, recently unveiled 41 renovated, oceanfront, one-bedroom beach cottages that feature a Hawaiian plantation-style decor with hardwood floors, marble baths, vaulted ceiling and a sunken living room that opens to a lanai (balcony) and spectacular views of Turtle Bay. Los Angeles-based Michael Smith, whose list of credits includes Michelle Pfeiffer's house in Lanikai on Oahu, created the elegant yet comfortable, interior design concept. Butler service is a key component of the beach cottage experience and guests' whims are anticipated and fulfilled. The butler calls guests prior to their arrival to ask about special needs. Upon arrival, he escorts them to the beach cottage where he unpacks the luggage, arranges golf and other activities and suggests dining options, including private meals served in the cottage. The resort's new in-room dining menus showcase Pacific Rim cuisine and "Healthy Heart" choices. The 440-rooms Turtle Bay Resort offers 25,000 square feet of meeting space, two lounges, four food and beverage outlets, two 18-hole golf courses, three outdoor pools, 10 tennis courts, a spa and fitness center, horseback riding, surfing and hiking. Rates for the beach cottages run from $349 to $600 per night.

WAIKIKI PARC FUSES VALUE, LOCATION - Who doesn't want to stay close to the beach, yet avoid paying beachfront prices? Amazingly, many people don't know that the WAIKIKI PARC HOTEL, a 297-room property in Waikiki offers just that! A mere 100 yards from fluffy white sand and lilting waves, the Waikiki Parc sits across the street from its more famous sister hotel, the Halekulani. And it attracts an entirely different visitor. While the Halekulani is a luxury property, the Parc is neither luxury nor budget. It has an adequate, but minimal, fitness center and a pool, but no spa. Guests have signing privileges at Halekulani's restaurants and shops but cannot use the pool or spa there. Rooms at the Parc are small, but most have stunning ocean or city views. As a guest at the Parc, you can enjoy an "intimate boutique-style setting where you're greeted by name. You can walk just yards to the beach or the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center or upscale 2100 Kalakaua and receive a full buffet breakfast every day during your stay. Free parking is part of many packages - a huge money-saver designed to encourage visitors to rent a car and see the island. About half of the Parc's gusts arrive form the U.S. mainland. And, for a guest who would rather spend money on souvenirs and elegant dinners than send out the laundry, the Parc has a self-service laundry room beside the pool, an amenity that is increasingly popular with guests. Rates start at $224 per night, up to $320 for a deluxe ocean room. Children under age 14 are charged $1 per year of their age. Families receive discounts on a second room (up to $200 off for a Deluxe room) when traveling together. All rooms include full American breakfast for two at Parc Cafe or Japanese breakfast at Kacho, The Parc Sunrise package offers a deluxe mountainview room with breakfast and parking for $180.
