| HAWAII GOLF Your golf skills are sure to be tested by the unequalled challenge and diversity of Hawaii's courses. Where else on earth will you play courses designed around the natural contours of ancient lava flows, dramatic cliffs, sprawling lagoons and lush forests, while dolphins and whales frolic in the Pacific as you walk the palm-lined fairways and attempt to keep your mind on the game. Arrange your Hawaii Golf Travel with our Hawaii Specialist! Hawaii Golf Courses HAWAII GOLF COURSES Golf on "The Big
Island" (Hawaii) BEYOND THE RESORTS... Arguably the top Hawaiian island for golf! In a survey, Golf magazine's readers selected 20 "gold medal" resorts in the United States. Eight were Hawaiian. Three were on the Big Island. Like the island's topography, which ranges from lava to snow to rain forest, the island's 19 courses offer uncommon diversity.

Mauna
Kea Golf Course A classic 6,365-yard Robert Trent Jones track through the lava, was one of the first great Hawaiian layouts. Like Hualalai, it cuts through the lava and draws tournaments and television cameras. Hapuna
Golf Course A 6,029-yard Arnold Palmer-designed course added to Mauna Kea in 1992. Stiff trade winds and desert-style flora are among its highlights. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND'
South
Course A 6,370-yard course, best known as the former host of the Senior Skins Game, features two famous ocean-spanning par threes. North
Course A 6,635-yard track, draws fewer players. With lava and giant rocks throughout, however, it still provides a unique challenge for most golfers. If this Kohala Coast resort has a fault, it is the below-average practice area. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND' Another notable destination on the Kohala Coast, where two top-notch hotels, the ROYAL WAIKOLOAN HOTEL and the HILTON WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, complement two top-notch courses. Beach
Course A 5,958-yard Trent Jones-designed, may be relatively short, but offers the challenge of lava flows as well as ocean hazards. King's
Course A 6,010-yard track designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Moorish, plays relatively flat. Waikoloa
Village Golf Club Another course nearby, offers an excellent third option for players who want to play several courses without traveling far. At 6,142 yards, this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design runs along a nearby mountainside. Players should bring extra clothing. It can be cool. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND' A semiprivate 6,661-yard track designed by John Sanford, located north of the big resorts in Waimea. At more than 5,000 feet above sea level, the course is green and, often, damp. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND' The MAKELEI HAWAII COUNTRY CLUB sits on the mountain above the Kohala coast and runs a mammoth 7,091 yards. Dick Nugent designed the course, where the chirping of the local exotic bird population provides extra character. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND' DISCOVERY
HARBOUR & VOLCANO GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB The most unusual golf experiences on the island can be found at DISCOVERY HARBOUR, the southernmost course in the United States and a short road trip away at the VOLCANO GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, which, as the name suggests, sits on an active volcano. Players can take on both public layouts on consecutive days. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE BIG ISLAND' Golf on the Island of Kauai With only nine courses to choose from, Kauai can't rival its golf-friendly neighbors for quantity. For quality, however, it's hard to beat. All but two of Kauai's nine courses are notable, but we're focusing on seven: Prince Course
Waterfalls, streams, ocean views and mango groves can be found around virtually every corner. Few golfers argue that it's one of the world's most beautiful layouts. All the things that make it pretty, however, help make the 6,521-yard coarse one of the world's most difficult, too. Makai
Course Actually consists of three less stunning but still challenging nine-hole lineups - the WOODS, the OCEAN and the LAKES. Like the Prince Course, all three were designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Golfers left in shock by their high scores swear the 252-room Princeville Hotel, the centerpiece of the resort, helps soothe their misery. Every room has a view of Hanalei Bay, which helped Princeville gain gold-medal status with Golf magazine's readers. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI'
Kiele
A 6,637-yard course that hovers above the Pacific along the bluffs, is one of Nicklaus' masterpieces. The local rain forests are expertly worked into the design, making it a favorite for televised tourneys; each hole is named after an animal. Mokihana An easier links-style 6,545-yard course. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI' Poipu Bay
Resort Golf Course Ranks with Kiele and the Prince Course as Kauai's top layouts. It's a true challenge, even for the pros. Trade winds taunt players early in the back nine, and several of the holes run uphill or downhill. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI' (A Public Course) - offers one of the great Hawaiian bargains. Nonresidents can play the 6,585-yard municipal course, a layout that has hosted the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship several times, for as little as $20 a round. The price makes Wailua very popular, but it's still possible to get a tee time; but, call well in advance (808-241-6666). BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI' KUKUIOLONO The 75-year-old Kukuiolono is the oldest course in Kauai. The nine-hole layout originally belonged to a sugar plantation baron. Now it's a public course perfect for casual duffers who love a great view. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI' Golf on the Island of Lanai
BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF LANAI' A course of spectacular natural contrasts, where elevated tees, imaginative water hazards, and rolling fairways present golfers with one of the most unique, hole-by-hole challenges in the world. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF LANAI' Golf on the Island of Maui Three championship courses, THE BAY, THE VILLAGE and THE PLANTATION, set amid Maui's magnificent landscape make Kapalua the #1 golf resort in Hawaii. Each distinctive course presents its own challenge to a player's abilities... even PGA TOUR professionals are put to the test as they compete in the the MERCEDES CHAMPIONSHIPS. This PGA TOUR event is held every January on Kapalua's Plantation Course.
Adding to the allure is the KAPALUA GOLF ACADEMY, a state-of-the-art instructional facility unparalleled in Hawaii. Players can learn the basics or hone their skills when learning from the largest teaching staff in the state which consists of over 30 PGA Professionals. 1/2, 2, or 3 day Golf schools are the perfect complement to any vacation on Maui and full golf instruction vacation packages are available at each of their accommodations. Due to their world-class courses, beautiful scenery and impeccable service Kapalua is Hawaii's only seven-time Golf Magazine Gold Medal recipient. Plantation
Course
Spectacular ocean vistas and jagged black lava peninsulas have been integrated into the design, forming a course that's both challenging and fun to play. Village Course
Carved into the foothills of the lush West Maui Mountains, tight fairways and elevated greens are the highlights of this course where spectacular scenery offers a delightful distraction. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF MAUI' KAANAPALI GOLF COURSES offer 36 holes of legendary golf that plays through the beautiful foothills of the West Maui Mountains and thrills golfers with sweeping panoramas of the coastline. Dont be fooled, Kaanapali offers far more than just breathtaking scenery it is recognized as a world-class golf facility and has hosted many professional events including the Senior PGA Champions Tour Kaanapali Classic and the LPGA Kemper Open. Kaanapali is Where the World Comes to Play. Kaanapali Golf Courses lie in the heart of the KAANAPALI BEACH RESORT. Kaanapali is a vacationers paradise with six award-winning resort hotels and four distinctive condominium resorts nestled along the internationally renowned Kaanapali Beach. Guests staying within the resort receive preferred rates and tee times. North
Course Gently ring 200 feet from the sea up to the West Maui Mountains, this fairly open, very scenic course is distinctive, demanding, and appealing. (Home of the Senior Tour's EMC 2 Maui Kaanapali Classic.) South
Course Well-conditioned, fast greens and narrow, hilly fairways play best to the accurate shot maker, especially when the famous Hawaiian trade winds are gusting across the course. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF MAUI' MAKENA North

Blue
Course Featuring large greens and wide, forgiving fairways fringed by 72 bunkers and three lakes, this course is consistently rated among the top resort courses in America by Golf Digest, but appeals to a broad range of golfers. Emerald
Course A lush, tropical playground with magnificent views and undulating terrain. (Ranked among the Top 10 most woman-friendly courses by Golf For Women.) BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF MAUI' Golf on the Island of Oahu OTHER NOTABLE LINKS... Oahu has more than 35 golf courses, by far the most linked island. However, according to the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, only 1% of U.S. visitors to Oahu play golf. Why? About half the courses are private, and many others are owned by the military. The available courses aren't up to the standards set by the world-class resorts on the other islands. Locals know, though, where a few gems can be had. After it opened in 1992, it was soon tabbed by many as the toughest course in the world. Dick Nugent and J. Tuthill designed the 7,310-yard course with sloping fairways and loads of sand traps. Some people like Koolau not for the challenge, but for its ostentatious clubhouse and the high-tech touches. Carts have built-in global positioning satellites, allowing players to measure distances with near-perfect accuracy. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF OAHU' The highlight of the resort. A 6,279-yard course affiliated with the Turtle Bay Hilton and Country Club. The virtually tree-free front nine resembles a links course, but, after the turn-around, the obstacles are back, as are water hazards and the sight of Oahu's northernmost point. Turtle Bay's remote location works for golfers who want to escape the bustle of Honolulu. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF OAHU' A remote 6,414-yard track that features golf and transportation packages in conjunction with the SHERATON WAIKIKI. BACK TO 'GOLF ON THE ISLAND OF OAHU' A water-filled 6,876-yard layout that has hosted several LPGA and Senior PGA events.
