Shell Beach

St. Bart's packs some of the Caribbean's prettiest white-sand beaches into only nine miles. Soak up the sun on ANSI de Margot to the east or Flagman's Beach to the west. Windsurf at ANSI Tony, aptly named Washing Machine Beach.

RECIPE FOR A RARE TREAT

  • Take one beach-fringed volcanic island, sweltering in the tropical sun for several million years.
  • Add a handful of French maritime adventurers in search of a new and better life.
  • Simmer for four hundred years.
  • Turn up the heat, and add luxurious villas, elegant small hotels, and world class French restaurants.
  • Baste with equal amounts of sophisticated relaxation and rustic charm.
  • Serve

St. Kitts

Soak up the rays at Banana Bay or Frigate Bay on St. Kitts. Prefer diving? Take the plunge into the Bloody Bay Reef or Black Coral Reef.

Walking on the beach - the Pitons in the background

Only one road encircles St. Lucia, but miles of palm-lined beaches fringe the island's southern coast. Snorkels and divers head to ANSI Chestnut on the south-west shore, or to Margot Bay where Dr. Doolittle was filmed. Some like it hot, especially at the dormant Soufriere volcano where super-heated Sulfur Springs shoot high into the air.

Beach at Simpson Bay

Approximately 15 white-sand beaches are located on the Dutch-accented St. Maarten side of this 37-square-mile island-nation, which includes wide, uncrowned Simpson Bay Beach; mile-long Mullet Bay; Dawn Beach, famous for its sunrises and Little Bay Beach, a haven for snorkelers. When the sun goes down, sample international fare at countless restaurants and try your luck in almost a dozen glittering casinos.

The island-nation's French side, St. Martin, is Gaelic to its core. In the capital of Margot, shop at the Saturday market, or head to Rue de la Republic to browse the chic boutiques. Sunbathers can choose from more than 20 beaches, including Grand Case, lined with gourmet French restaurants and laid-back Orient Beach, offering a full array of watersports.
